C is for the Crippled Woman (Women of the Bible)

Welcome to Week 3 of Blogging through the Alphabet! This week we are focusing on the letter C.

C is for the Crippled Woman.

Scripture Reference:

Luke 13:10-13 (NIV)

¹⁰ On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, ¹¹ and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. ¹² When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” ¹³ Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

Name Unknown:

She is only known in Scripture as the crippled woman.

Interesting Facts about the Crippled Woman:

• She had been crippled by a spirit of infirmity in which she was bent over and couldn't straighten up at all for 18 years.
• Although she was crippled, she was in the synagogue at this recorded time in Scripture when Jesus was teaching.
• The crippled woman was a believer.
• The crippled woman did not ask for healing - Jesus took the initiative to call her forward.
• She was healed by Jesus on the Sabbath.
• She praised God for her healing.

What We Can Learn from the Crippled Woman:

• If at all possible, let nothing stand in our way of our assembling together with other believers.
• Have a teachable spirit as a believer.
• Jesus has the power to heal and set free.
• Never give up for your healing!
• Jesus sees us and knows our needs even if we never ask.
• When Jesus calls us we should willingly respond.
• Our immediate response to the wonderful things God does in our lives should be to praise His name. 
• When facing adversity, look up to Jesus and the hope He offers, instead of looking down and losing hope.
