How to Control Your Emotions Book Study

I am so excited! Drumroll please...

The dates have been set for our book study of How to Control Your Emotions So They Don't Control You (A Mom's Guide to Overcoming) by Brooke McGlothlin.

Starting Monday, October 14
and continuing each week through
Friday, November 15

join me and other women as we journey together seeking to overcome the downward spiral of emotions that fight to control us on a daily basis. Help is here my friends!

Brooke shows us in her new ebook important Biblical truths we can use to overcome our emotions as she teaches us we don't have to submit to emotions that are damaging or let them control us. Instead we have a choice to submit those damaging emotions to the authority of the Word of God. The heart of Brooke's teaching is found in "Feel, Know, Do" which we'll cover in chapter 1. Next, in chapter 2 we'll learn "How to Overcome Lies with the Truth". Then in chapter 3 "Where Do We Get the Power to Overcome", we'll discover the Source of our power to overcome. In chapter 4 "Sometimes We Just Have to Walk Away", Brooke will take us through steps to remember as we try to process our responses to life's difficult circumstances. Finally in chapter 5 "What Happens When We Blow It?", because yes, we will still blow it at times...but in this final chapter we will see that we do not have to lose heart, that there is forgiveness when we do mess up, and that God is faithful to continue to give us victories as we seek to surrender our emotions to Him.

I would love for you to join me on this 5-week journey! To sign-up, please subscribe here

Here's how our book study will go: Each Monday, I will do a blog post to share my thoughts and ask a couple of questions to help us all get into discussion on the chapter we will read for the week. Then on Fridays, I will host a link-up party here on my blog where you all can link up your blog posts sharing what God laid on your heart throughout the week. If you don't have a blog, that's okay. I would love for you to come here on Fridays and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

More exciting news!! Brooke has generously offered one subscriber to our book study a free copy of her ebook, How to Control Your Emotions So They Don't Control You (A Mom's Guide to Overcoming). Simply leave a comment that you'll be joining the book study and what excites you about this study.

I can't wait to begin this journey with you! I'm praying God uses this book study to transform each one of us as we seek to surrender our emotions to Him. There are victories awaiting us, my friends. I'll see you here on Monday, October 14!

Love and prayers,
Laurie

    1. I need help too Amanda! Just last night, I failed with my son and let my frustrations bring out the worst in me. I could see the hurt in his eyes and it broke my heart. This study could not have come at a better time for me. I'm so thankful to have other moms to join the study who are also seeking help in this area. :)

  13. This study is an answer to prayer! I have 3 boys, two of them toddlers, and I know they are the ones who suffer most from my emotions. I've been struggling to keep myself in check lately, and I have been praying for God to help me in this. The study starts on my birthday, too! It's like God saying, "I love you and want you to succeed. Happy Birthday!"

  15. So excited for this book. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and really need to learn how to control my emotions so I can teach them to do the same. I have a full time job in law enforcement forensics and feel like sometimes I have to hold it so together at work that when I come home tired and drained I don't do a good enough job as a mom to control my emotions at home! Praying for God to guide me!

  16. Working on control of my emotions is something I've been working on for a long time. I have a severe sleep disorder, so keeping my cool is something I've found very hard to do on little sleep. I know I can always improve though! Looking forward to learning more on how to do it!

  19. Wow. This is exactly what I need! I struggle everyday with emotions and all too often I allow them to get the best of me. My 15 month old daughter deserves better. I would love to do this study but at this time it just isn't possible financially. Hopefully it will go so well that I will have the opportunity to do it the 2nd time around :)

  29. I desperately need all the help I can get to reign in my emotions. I know in the end it's God changing my heart, and we're working on that, but it's nice to go on the journey with other moms in the same boat.

  30. I would love to join this study but I do not have the money to purchase the e-book. I have three boys, ages 3,4, and 7. My husband and I have been separated for 5 1/2 months. He took all the money and barely supports us. In fact, I had to agree to move out of our home in order to get some financial support from him. He is mentally/emotionally abusive and was physically at one time. We now live with my mother whose actions toward me have been called abusive by multiple counselors I have spoken with. It seems we have jumped from the frying pan in to the fire. In order to deal with my overwhelming emotions, I have begun cutting myself...to my confusion and embarrassment. I am so overwhelmed with my emotions that I can hardly be around my boys with out losing control. I hope I can follow along with your posts and still learn something.

    1. Dear couponmomof3boys,

I am praying for you to find comfort in our Heavenly Father, that He will give you His peace that surpasses all understanding, and that His mighty hand will protect you. You mentioned you have spoken with multiple counselors and I would encourage you to find a Christian counselor to speak with concerning the cutting. Or if you belong to a church...speak with one of your pastors since your finances might not allow you to pay for a Christian counselor. Please follow along with the posts from everyone...God can and will speak to your heart. I also want to encourage you to read the Word of God and pray during this difficult time in your life. Know that others here are praying on your behalf as well.

      Your sister in Christ,
      Laurie
