Why Worry?

We all are guilty of worrying about things in this life. But, why worry as children of God?

Learning to Trust God

What I've come to learn in my own life is that when I am worrying, I have taken my eyes off of God and the truth of Who I know Him to be.

He is my Provider.

He is my Father in Heaven.

He loves me.

He cares about me.

He has a good plan for me.

He is able.

So instead of worrying about things - let's encourage each other to think about the truths of God concerning us. How about it? Will you join me? What are some truths about God that you stand on during the times when you're tempted to worry?

Welcome to Week 2 of Matthew with the Good Morning Girls! Here is our reading plan this week:

Matthew 6

Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Observations:

Do not worry about your life:

a.      Do not worry about what you will eat
b.      Do not worry about what you will drink
c.      Do not worry about what you will wear

All of these are physical concerns/needs. We are not to worry about these things because God knows that we need all of these things and He is our provider for them.

We are to first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness (all spiritual concerns). None of our physical needs will be lacking when we put God as the first priority in our lives.

We are not to worry about tomorrow, but trust that God has already provided for that time as well.

Application: God must come first before anything else in our lives. Worry doesn’t accomplish anything other than stress. For me, I have found that worry in my life reveals a lack of trust in my heart towards God. Realizing that, God has helped me to not be the worrier that I used to be. He’s helped me to trust in Who I know Him to be as my Provider by remembering how He has provided for me and my family in times past.

Kneel: Heavenly Father, thank You for all the ways You have provided for me and my family over the years. Thank You for helping me win the battle against worry by teaching me to remember all the ways that You have provided for me in times past. Help me to always stand on the truth of Who I know You to be – my Provider. You are faithful Father, and I pray that I would always be faithful to seek Your Kingdom and Your Righteousness above all else in this world. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen!

Can I share some exciting news with you before you go?

My daughter will be delivering her and my son-in-law's baby boy any day now. Her due date is this Friday, so if you come here this week and don't find my Blogging Through the Bible posts - that is why! (*smile*)

This post was actually supposed to go live yesterday (Monday), but it was a crazy busy day around here and right now as I type this post it is 12:07 a.m. Tuesday. (*smile*) Hey, it's real life...LOL!

I would really appreciate your prayers for my daughter and grandson - for a safe delivery for mom and baby, for a healthy baby, and no complications for either of them. Thanks!

Walking in His Grace,
Laurie

  1. I stand on His unconditional love. I often feel like a shmuck with others and disappoint people but I am so glad I don't have to earn His love and it's so freely given and available to me!
