YWAM Publishing Review

Corrie ten Boom: Keeper of the Angels' Den is one of the 42 books in the Christian Heroes: Then and Now book series.

The book description given by YWAM Publishing:

Suddenly, Corrie's ordered life was lost in the insanity of war. With bravery and compassion, her family and countless other Dutch citizens risked everything to extend God's hand to those innocents marked for certain execution in a world gone mad.

Corrie ten Boom's life of determination, faith, and forgiveness in the face of unimaginable brutality and hardship is a stunning testimony of the sustaining power of God (1892-1983).

I have always admired the courage and faith of Corrie ten Boom. I'm so glad to be able to read about her life and learn from her Christian example with my son!

How We Used the Book and Unit Study Curriculum Guide

For the remainder of this review, I will be sharing about our experience with Corrie ten Boom: Keeper of the Angels' Den, one of the books available in the Christian Heroes: Then & Now book series; plus the Unit Study Curriculum Guide.

Christian Heroes Then & Now Series

We read a chapter a week in the book. There are comprehension questions provided for each chapter in the Unit Study Curriculum Guide which I use with my son after reading each chapter. I am pleasantly surprised when he can answer most of the questions! He really gets into the book as we read it together.

I also use the Scripture verses provided in the curriculum guide as copywork each week. Once we have finished reading the book, I plan to go to our local library and check out the movie, The Hiding Place, which is a movie suggestion in the curriculum guide based on Corrie ten Boom's life.

There is so much to choose from in the Unit Study Curriculum Guide! I love that and the fact that I'm not tied to doing the same activity every day after we read. It also helps to keep my son's attention and interest.

I'm really looking forward to reading more of the books included in Christian Heroes: Then & Now series with my son. I hope you'll check out this inspirational series about real life Christian heroes and everything else that is offered at YWAM Publishing!

How We Used Super Teacher Worksheets

I absolutely love Super Teachers Worksheets! I used the math worksheets and the reading comprehension worksheets with my son in our homeschool as a way to reinforce weaknesses in his learning which is delayed due to his special needs.

I used the worksheet generator to create my own math worksheets for my son so he could practice his subtraction facts. I will be making more worksheets to use as practice for addition, multiplication and division. I love that I can save all of my worksheets that I create and reprint them at any time. This will be a great time-saver for me! Especially if there is a particular worksheet that my son might struggle with and we need to go over again.

The reading comprehension worksheets were very helpful to use with my son to build his comprehension skills.

I'm using the spelling lists in our homeschool as well. You can print off the list of spelling words each week and use the worksheets that go along with them for practice work during the week. I had my son write out the list of spelling words on Monday and quizzed him on Tuesday. Any words he missed on the spelling quiz were assigned to write again on Wednesday and Thursday with the final spelling test on those missed words taking place on Friday.

I love the filing cabinet that I can use to save the worksheets I've used. There is a handy icon at the top of the menu bar that you can simply click on to save the worksheets you find and use on Super Teacher Worksheets.

My Opinion of Super Teacher Worksheets

As I stated earlier in my review, I love using Super Teacher Worksheets! There are so many printable worksheets available with just the click of my mouse. If you're looking for printable worksheets to use in your homeschool, you will definitely want to check out Super Teacher Worksheets! This is a completely online program so you will need a computer or laptop, internet access, and a printer.

Trusting God For the Power To Live This Life

One of the most life-changing spiritual truths I have realized in my life as a Christian is discovering that God has given me the power needed to live this life as His child. We read about this power coming in Peter's life in Acts chapter 2.

Acts Bible Study with Good Morning Girls

You remember Peter, right? Peter was the disciple who at the lowest point of His Christian life denied Jesus three times on the night Jesus was arrested.

But something wonderful and amazing happened to Peter! After weeping bitterly over his sin, Peter returns to the fellowship of the apostles and we find in Acts chapter 2 that they were all together in one place waiting on the promise of the Holy Spirit.

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. ~Acts 2:1-4

Peter and the rest in that upper room received the promised Holy Spirit! Not only had Jesus told them about the gift of the Holy Spirit ~ the power they would need to be His witnesses in this life ~ but this was also prophecy from the Old Testament being fulfilled.
And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. ~Joel 2:28-32

Trusting God for the power to live this life is something we must all come to terms with in our spiritual growth. God knew we couldn't live this life to be His witnesses in our own strength and power. In fact, if you're like me, you've failed miserably each time you have tried.

Instead, we must learn to surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit that lives inside each one of us the moment we surrender our hearts and lives to Jesus. It is at that very moment of surrender that the Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts.

It is when we realize that we have this power of the Holy Spirit living inside of us that we can begin to grow into all that God desires for us to be. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. We receive it all and each day we grow a little bit in each characteristic of the Holy Spirit.

We can see a change in Peter's life after he received the Holy Spirit. Can the same be said of our lives? That's my prayer, as I'm sure it is the prayer for your life as well.

Peter has become a bold witness for Jesus! He boldly addresses the mockers in Acts 2 with his famous sermon of Acts 2:14-40 which results in the salvation and baptism of "about three thousand souls" (verse 41).

Beloved, you and I have this same Holy Spirit power living inside of us! May we surrender every day to the power of the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us by God...

...to enable us to be who God created us to be and to do all that Jesus has called us to do as His witnesses to a lost and dying world.

Understanding Your Ministry as a Christian

Did you know there is an unfinished work that Jesus left for us to do during our time here on earth? Realizing and understanding this truth is the foundation for understanding your ministry as a Christian.

Blogging Through the Bible with Good Morning Girls

In the opening verse of Acts 1:1 we see that Jesus “began to do and teach”.

In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach.” ~Acts 1:1

What is the work that Jesus asks us to do? We find the answer in Acts 1:8-9.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

As Christians, we are called to finish the work that Jesus began during his ministry here on earth. We are called to be His witnesses.

Jesus finished the work of redemption on the cross. There is nothing else you or I can do or add to his finished work on the cross. The gift of salvation is a finished work. It’s a gift that we are called to share with the world.

What is it that Jesus “began to do and teach”? The commandments of God. We can’t even begin to be His witnesses if we do not know the truth of God. We have to know what the Bible says. That’s why it’s so important for us to be in God’s Word every day, learning our growing, so we can be faithful witnesses rightly handling the Word of God.

In the next six weeks while we are reading in the book of Acts with the Good Morning Girls, we are going to be taking a glimpse into the lives of people who did their part in finishing the unfinished work that Jesus began in his ministry during His time on earth.

We all have a part to play in the unfinished work of Jesus. Each one of us who are born-again believers in the family of God has been assigned a part in finishing the work which Jesus began.

The apostle Paul understood his part in finishing the work that Jesus began. He says to the Ephesian Elders in Acts 20:22-24:

And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Even with continual warnings from the Holy Spirit of the troubles and afflictions he would be facing in every city, Paul would not be deterred from his part in finishing the work that Jesus began. He wasn’t concerned with protecting his life or saving for retirement! His motivation was finishing his part in the unfinished work of Jesus.

Do we, as Christians, have the same motivation to fulfill our part in the unfinished work of Jesus?
What will we do with the time we have been given here on this earth?

The journey we begin today in the book of Acts testifies about the work that the Holy Spirit accomplished through His people in order to finish the unfinished work of Jesus. It’s a work of the Holy Spirit that continues even today in and through us as we live our lives for the purpose of finishing the work that Jesus gave us to do.

Understanding your ministry as a Christian requires taking an honest look at the priorities you have set in place for your life. Has the busyness of this world choked out your time for reading in the Bible? I invite you to join me in the book of Acts for the next six weeks. Let’s learn together about the acts of the Holy Spirit that are recorded in the book of Acts and get a fresh vision for how we can be a part of finishing the unfinished work of Jesus!

Walking in His Grace,
Laurie
