How We Used Super Teacher Worksheets

I absolutely love Super Teachers Worksheets! I used the math worksheets and the reading comprehension worksheets with my son in our homeschool as a way to reinforce weaknesses in his learning which is delayed due to his special needs.

I used the worksheet generator to create my own math worksheets for my son so he could practice his subtraction facts. I will be making more worksheets to use as practice for addition, multiplication and division. I love that I can save all of my worksheets that I create and reprint them at any time. This will be a great time-saver for me! Especially if there is a particular worksheet that my son might struggle with and we need to go over again.

The reading comprehension worksheets were very helpful to use with my son to build his comprehension skills.

I'm using the spelling lists in our homeschool as well. You can print off the list of spelling words each week and use the worksheets that go along with them for practice work during the week. I had my son write out the list of spelling words on Monday and quizzed him on Tuesday. Any words he missed on the spelling quiz were assigned to write again on Wednesday and Thursday with the final spelling test on those missed words taking place on Friday.

I love the filing cabinet that I can use to save the worksheets I've used. There is a handy icon at the top of the menu bar that you can simply click on to save the worksheets you find and use on Super Teacher Worksheets.

My Opinion of Super Teacher Worksheets

As I stated earlier in my review, I love using Super Teacher Worksheets! There are so many printable worksheets available with just the click of my mouse. If you're looking for printable worksheets to use in your homeschool, you will definitely want to check out Super Teacher Worksheets! This is a completely online program so you will need a computer or laptop, internet access, and a printer.

Jim Hodges Productions Review

Jim Hodges Productions is your source for audio book recordings of historical novels from G.A. Henty. I was excited to be selected to do a review of With Lee in Virginia, as well as the accompanying study guide in PDF format in our homeschool. My 14 year old son loves history, so this was an excellent opportunity for us to learn more about the American Civil War.

All of the G.A. Henty audio book recordings from Jim Hodges Productions come in MP3 CD format. They can only be played on a computer CD drive, a DVD player, a laptop computer CD drive, or on a MP3 compatible CD player. You will not be able to play them on a standard CD player. The stories are best for ages 10 and up.

With Lee in Virginia has a total run time of 11 hours and 20 minutes. Get ready to travel back in time as you and your child are introduced to many of the battles of the 1860's. There are 20 chapters to listen to. Here is a list of the chapter titles and times.

The 58-page study guide for With Lee in Virginia has vocabulary word lists, storyline questions, history notes, geography notes, old-fashioned phrases and their meanings, activities to choose from, and a list of quality character traits. Answers to the storyline questions are provided as a guide for grading your child's work.

If you and your child love to make timelines, you'll be happy to know that one of the activities included in the study guide is to make a Civil War timeline. There are also website links provided for additional activity choices. Other activity choices include cooking recipes from the time period, map work, artwork, poetry and music of the time period, and watching movie clips of key people during the time period.

There are four quizzes included in the study guide. There is a quiz after every five chapters.

The price of the study guide for With Lee in Virginia is only $12.00. This study guide is a fantastic resource to use alongside of the MP3 CD for a unit study on the American Civil War.

For the vocabulary words, your child is asked to look up the word and write its definition so you will need a dictionary. The vocabulary words are formatted into a table in the study guide with space for your child to write the definition, so don't worry about getting a separate notebook or index cards.

I love the list of quality character traits that is included on the last page of the study guide!! One of my main goals this year in our homeschool was to focus on character traits with my 14 year old son. This list contains 49 character traits any parent would be thrilled to see developed in their child! Each character trait is discussed in the storyline questions as your child is asked to choose a particular character trait to describe the actions of the characters in the story.

We are listening to one chapter a week and working in the study guide. Before listening to the chapter, we work on the vocabulary words, so my son will be familiar with them as they come up within the storyline. After we have listened to an entire chapter, I then have my son complete the storyline questions. On Fridays we usually pick at least one activity and complete it. 

My son and I have loved listening to With Lee in Virginia! The study guide has been a wonderful resource to help us in our unit study on the American Civil War. We have been able to pick and choose from the activities suggested at the end of each chapter in the study guide which has given hands-on opportunities to make our study fun. Golden Prairie Press Review ~ American History Curriculum

My son loves to learn about history, especially American history. Recently, as part of the TOS Review Crew, we were given the opportunity to review Digital Heroes and Heroines of the Past: American History Curriculum, from Golden Prairie Press. We have thoroughly enjoyed using this digital curriculum in our study of American history.

Some of the songs included are Battle Hymn of the Republic, Yankee Doodle, All the Pretty Little Horses, and I've Been Working on the Railroad.

All of these items were downloaded to my computer for our use. You will need a computer with speakers, a printer to print out the lessons (if you choose) and any of the additional materials that you want to use with your child, pencils, paper, crayons, and any other supplies to complete the suggested activities.

Price and Age Range

The cost for this digital American history curriculum package is $98.99. It is available in a print edition as well for the same cost. The ideal age range for this homeschool history curriculum is grades 1-6, but I feel that it could be used with older ages as well.

How We Use Digital Heroes & Heroines of the Past: American History Curriculum

I love to have pre-planned lesson outlines when we begin a study such as this. I was thrilled to find this pre-planned lesson outline from Amy Puetz, the creator of this delightful American history curriculum.

We use Digital Heroes & Heroines of the Past: American History Curriculum four days a week for our homeschool history lessons. I follow the suggested lesson outline which keeps us on task and able to enjoy all that this American history curriculum has to offer.

The history lessons are divided into two sections. There is a section for 1st and 2nd graders which is presented in  a larger font and is a basic overview of the topic. The second section is for 3rd-6th graders, and has the same topic information on a more advanced level. We start off our lessons reading the topic lesson in the age level that my son is in. Once the reading is completed, I ask my son the questions that follow to make sure he comprehended and retained what we read. Some days there are writing assignments. Other days there is a craft or a recipe to make. We look at artwork from the time of history that is presented in some of the lessons. There is so much to do to keep my son interested. Each lesson can take between 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete. Of course, you don't have to do all of the activities suggested, but they sure do make learning American history fun!  

Our Opinion of Digital Heroes & Heroines of the Past: American History Curriculum

My son and I really love using this digital curriculum package for our unit study of American History. Everything you need to have an in depth study is included - art, writing, geography, cooking, crafts, music, games, videos, experiments - it's all included with Digital Heroes & Heroines of the Past: American History Curriculum from Golden Prairie Press! I love that everything has already been planned and put together in an easy to use format. I love that this is offered in both digital and printed format. I personally like having everything stored on my computer.

I appreciate how Amy Puetz has done all the leg work in putting together all the necessary resources for a fantastic unit study on American history.
