Building Our Homes With Wisdom

Have you ever thought about how you are building your home? I'm not talking about brick and mortar building, but spiritual building through the life we live inside the four walls of our homes.

Proverbs Summer Bible Study with Good Morning Girls

Today we are in Proverbs 14 with the Good Morning Girls. We find in the first verse of this chapter how we become wise women when we are building our homes with Wisdom.

The wisest of women builds her house,
but folly with her own hands tears it down.
~Proverbs 14:1

A wise woman builds her house with wisdom. In addition to the qualities of the Proverbs 31 woman, I think back to Proverbs 8 where we learned how Wisdom builds her house. This is what the Proverbs 31 woman used and so should we.

Here again are the 7 pillars used in building a house of wisdom that we read about in Proverbs 8:

12 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion
13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance,
evil behavior and perverse speech. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have insight, I have power.
~Proverbs 8:12-14

Pillar 1: Prudence (The ability to keep oneself from being misled.)

Pillar 2: Knowledge and Discretion (knowing what is going on around you; looking ahead and then having a plan of action)

Pillar 3: Fear of Lord (having a reverence for God that is expressed in daily living; being committed to God’s purpose; turning from and hating evil)

Pillar 4: Counsel (to give good advice/wise guidance; to listen to counsel for your own life too)

Pillar 5: Sound judgment (behaving wisely from day to day)

Pillar 6: Understanding (to understand that Wisdom comes from God; disciplined study and learning from the Bible in order to receive instruction from God; to be able to discern between good and evil)

Pillar 7: Power (Power for our life is found as we walk in the previous 6 pillars; we will be fortified against the evil of this world and will be known as a true child of God.)

We see in Proverbs 14:1 how  a foolish woman who refuses to build her house in the ways of the Lord will eventually tear it down through her various acts of disobedience to the will of God. Her sinful ways not only bring destruction to herself, but to the lives under her care. Our sin not only affects us, but those around us.

I want to be a wise woman; a woman who is surrendered to the molding and shaping of my heart in the ways of the Lord. I want to build my home with the pillars of Wisdom and live a life of obedience to God and be a blessing to my husband, my children, and my friends.

Is that your heart's desire too? Share with me in the comments. I'll be sure to pray for you as I pray for myself concerning our desire of building our homes with wisdom.

Walking in His Grace,
Laurie

  1. "We see in Proverbs 14:1 how  a foolish woman who refuses to build her house in the ways of the Lord will eventually tear it down through her various acts of disobedience to the will of God. I always wondered what that meant by a foolish woman would tear down her own how with her hands. I like how you describe things and make it easier to understand.
