How We Used Super Teacher Worksheets

I absolutely love Super Teachers Worksheets! I used the math worksheets and the reading comprehension worksheets with my son in our homeschool as a way to reinforce weaknesses in his learning which is delayed due to his special needs.

I used the worksheet generator to create my own math worksheets for my son so he could practice his subtraction facts. I will be making more worksheets to use as practice for addition, multiplication and division. I love that I can save all of my worksheets that I create and reprint them at any time. This will be a great time-saver for me! Especially if there is a particular worksheet that my son might struggle with and we need to go over again.

The reading comprehension worksheets were very helpful to use with my son to build his comprehension skills.

I'm using the spelling lists in our homeschool as well. You can print off the list of spelling words each week and use the worksheets that go along with them for practice work during the week. I had my son write out the list of spelling words on Monday and quizzed him on Tuesday. Any words he missed on the spelling quiz were assigned to write again on Wednesday and Thursday with the final spelling test on those missed words taking place on Friday.

I love the filing cabinet that I can use to save the worksheets I've used. There is a handy icon at the top of the menu bar that you can simply click on to save the worksheets you find and use on Super Teacher Worksheets.

My Opinion of Super Teacher Worksheets

As I stated earlier in my review, I love using Super Teacher Worksheets! There are so many printable worksheets available with just the click of my mouse. If you're looking for printable worksheets to use in your homeschool, you will definitely want to check out Super Teacher Worksheets! This is a completely online program so you will need a computer or laptop, internet access, and a printer.

A+ Interactive Math Review

Homeschool math is a subject in our home that I am always looking for something new to use to keep my son's attention and interest peaked. So I was very excited to be chosen to participate in a TOS review for A+ Interactive Math, an online math program. For this review, I received a six month subscription to A+ Interactive Math Curriculum: Family Math Package.

A+ Interactive Math Review

I love that A+ Interactive Math offers freebies for homeschool families to try out what they offer before making the decision to purchase. It's a great way to discover if their online math programs are a good fit for your children. Two of their most popular freebies are the Free Math Placement Test and the Free Family Math Package. Check them out today! I think you're going to love A+ Interactive Math as much as we do!

Great news! A+ Interactive Math is having a 40% to 50% off sale on their Family Math Package and their Adaptive Placement Testing with Lessons from Monday, May 4 through Monday, May 18.

They also offer these popular freebies:
TOS Review Crew

How We Used A+ Interactive Math

We used A+ Interactive Math: Family Math Package weekly in our homeschool.

My son has math learning gaps due to his special needs, so I was thrilled to discover that I can change his grade levels in the parent admin panel. In each grade level, topics of math study are listed for each chapter of math learning. This was beneficial to me because there are some math concepts that my son has not learned yet so I was able to skip over those topics until I'm ready to let him begin learning them. I love the flexibility of A+ Interactive Math!!

My son listens to and watches the video math lesson before any of the online math lessons are completed. These video math lessons are short and clearly presented through a teacher's voice while visuals of the math lesson are presented on the computer screen. After viewing the lesson, he then completes the Interactive Q&A and is guided through five practice problems that are covered in the video math lesson. If he answers the practice problem incorrectly, the teacher shows how to get the correct answer. Once the practice problems have been completed, there is a Update Lesson Status button on the top right of the computer screen that he can click on that will mark his lesson as being complete. On my parent admin panel, I can keep up with how many lessons my son has completed.

The math lessons can be done online after the practice math problems or they can be printed off. I chose to print off the math worksheets for my son because he works better with paper and pencil for math. If you choose to use the online worksheets, those are graded automatically for you. That's a great benefit if you have a child who likes to do their math work online! It's a winner for you too because all the grading is done for you!

I love being given the choice of either online or printable math worksheets!

The parent admin panel has a very helpful record keeping system that is every homeschooling parent's dream! You can see everything your child has completed online...the Interactive Q&As, worksheets, and exams.

UberSmart Math Facts Review

UberSmart Math Facts Review

UberSmart Software was created by homeschooling dad, David Kocur, after not be able to find anything he preferred for his own children who were ready to learn their addition and subtraction math facts. UberSmart Math Facts is the downloadable Windows based software program that David created and I was selected to review this product in our homeschool.

After receiving notification that I would be reviewing this product with my son, I contacted David by email because the name just grabbed my attention so much that I had to ask him how he came up with the name "UberSmart". Here was his reply which I think is totally awesome!

Hi Laurie,
It started with my family and I just throwing some ideas around.  My goal
was to find a unique name that denoted quality, as so much software out
there is of poor quality.  Eventually we settled on UberSoft (meaning
"super" software).  A couple weeks after getting a DBA for UberSoft, I
discovered there was already a company in another country by that name.
They just weren't using ubersoft.com.  After a little more thought and
research UberSoft morphed into UberSmart Software.  I really like the name
because it can be taken two ways: Using the software will make you super
smart, or software that is super smart.  In the case of UberSmart Math
Facts, I believe both meanings apply.  But, I may be a bit biased.  :)

Thanks for asking!

David Kocur
UberSmart Software

Well, our experience with UberSmart Math Facts definitely affirms that this software is super smart and is helping my son become super smart with his math facts! My son is thirteen, and due to special needs, has yet to master his math facts. UberSmart Math Facts has been a great addition to our daily math facts practice session in our homeschool. I can already see the light at the end of the tunnel for him as he is heading into mastering all of his addition math facts.

We'll definitely continue using this math software program through learning his subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts! We used UberSmart Math Facts as part of our daily math lessons. It fit in perfectly every day to our non-textbook math approach where I instead choose to focus on different math concepts that I feel Caleb is ready to learn.

Meet UberSmart Math Facts

UberSmart Math Facts teaches one number group at a time, starting with 0's, 1's, 2's, and so on up to the 9's with addition and subtraction. For multiplication and division, you have the option to set it up to go to 9's - 20's. Starting at these lower number groups, which are easy to learn, will give your child a sense of accomplishment right at the start AND it creates a healthy start in their learning environment for math facts mastery. What is great about this math facts software program is that you have the option to filter out mastered math facts so that your child can focus on the math facts they have yet to master.

You will need a Windows 7, 8, XP, or Vista operating system to use UberSmart Math Facts software on your computer. You are allowed to use it with eight or more students ranging in grades from K-6. The cost is very homeschool friendly at only $24.95! David is offering to my readers a special 30% discount off of this already low price. Simply enter "v4 Early Bird" in the discount code box on his purchase page.

CTC Math Review

Homeschooling in the subject of math can be difficult for both parents and students. I know I need all the help I can get when it comes to teaching certain math concepts. My son has had difficulties in math from the beginning of our homeschooling journey, so I have to go slow and repeat often. Anytime I can get us both the help we need, I eagerly accept it! I am so excited to bring this review to you today as part of the TOS Review Crew! CTC Math is an online math program for students on all levels of math. I was given the 12 Month Family Plan to use for this review.

CTC Math Review

Meet CTC Math

I was very excited to discover CTC Math and have the opportunity to use this online math program with my son in our homeschool. You will need a computer and an internet connection in order to use CTC Math as your homeschool math program. You can use CTC Math with every grade, K-12. The cost is $118.80 for a family subscription. Your membership includes access to all of the lessons across all of the grade levels on the CTC Math website. At the time of this posting, CTC Math is holding a homeschool sale for their online math program.

Pat Murray, a well-known Australian math teacher, writes and teaches each lesson presented on CTC Math through his online video lessons. After the video lesson, the student then completes the online worksheet assignment. Answers are scored immediately as correct or incorrect. If needed, the student can repeat the lesson if more incorrect answers are given on their online practice worksheet. A diagnostic test is available for immediate feedback on all the lessons within a given topic. A standard test of 11 questions and a comprehension test of 22 questions are available too.

Every math concept needed through 6th grade, plus all of the following math concepts for upper level math are covered in the lessons on the CTC Math website:
  • Basic Math and Pre-Algebra
  • Elementary Measurement
  • Elementary Geometry
  • Algebra 1
  • Pre-Calculus
  • Calculus
  • Algebra II
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometry
You can connect with CTC Math on the following social media outlets: Facebook CTC Math and Facebook Aus (Maths Online).

How We Use CTC Math

We use CTC Math at least four days every week in our homeschool. Each time we log into our account and find our lesson that we are working on. Caleb and I watch the video lesson together, then we do the online worksheet of problems that go with the day's lesson. There is a convenient "questions" icon placed to the right of the screen that we simply click on after viewing the lesson that takes us straight to the worksheet for that lesson. I love that! I also love that Pat demonstrates the lesson with two examples before asking the student to complete the online worksheet questions. Those examples are included in a "lesson summary" icon to the right of the screen underneath the "questions" icon. If we need to review how Pat explained to solve the questions, we simply click on the "lesson summary" icon. If that isn't enough for my son, we simply replay the video lesson until he grasps how to do the concept we are learning.

CTC Weekly Math Report
CTC Math student desktop

My Opinion of CTC Math

I could not be more pleased with CTC Math! I love how each lesson is explained and broken down with clear step-by-step directions by Pat Murray. My son loved his accent on the video lessons which in turn kept his attention during the online math lessons! Teaching math can be hard, but with CTC Math I can turn the math lessons over to Pat with confidence that my son will learn what he needs to in his daily math lessons.

Another benefit of CTC Math that I absolutely love is the CTC Weekly Math Report that is sent to my email every week. In this report parents are given the weekly activity log and a summary of the performance of each student enrolled in your family account. This has been so helpful to me in keeping track of my son's math progress and to pinpoint areas of math weakness. I can use this weekly report as I sit to plan out our lessons for the upcoming week. If there was a math concept that my son had difficulty in, I will have that information on the CTC Weekly Math Report, and will know that I need to review those online math lessons with him. I can repeat those lessons as many times as my son needs to so that he can form a solid math foundation from the bottom to the top.

I love how I am in control of how fast or slow we move through each math concept, how we can repeat lessons if needed, and how we can move across grade levels. I am extremely happy that my son has his very own online math tutor, as well as the fact that I have every concept necessary for teaching math from K-12, for a price that we can fit into our homeschooling budget! I'm getting 2 for the price of 1 and that calculates into happiness for everyone in our family!

Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions from ScienceandMath.com

Today I'm bringing you a review of Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions from ScienceandMath.com, a wonderful step-by-step video course provider for math and science. Since fractions is a math concept I have yet to tackle with my son in our homeschool, I jumped at the chance when the opportunity came up to review it as part of the TOS Review Crew!

Mastering 5th Grade Math

What's the Age Range for Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions?

The age range suggested is grades 4 - 6. Your kids will benefit from using this math video course because Jason Gibson, the instructor, becomes your own personal math tutor who does a fantastic job teaching about fractions! He thoroughly explains each lesson step-by-step so that a solid foundation is laid at the very beginning of your student's study of math fractions. For this reason, I believe Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1- Fractions would be suitable at any time you feel your student in the suggested age range is ready to begin their study of math fractions. For some this may be as early as 4th grade, while others may want to wait until 5th or 6th grade. You know your kids, so it's up to you when to begin your study of math fractions with them. You'll definitely want to enlist Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions when you are ready to begin!

What's Included with Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions?

Two disks are included in the video course of Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions. One is the DVD which includes the lessons, while the other is a CD that contains the printable worksheets for the lessons as well as an answer key.

Here's a peek at what your student will learn in Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions:

Lesson 1: Review of Fraction Concepts
Lesson 2: Writing Fractions as Words
Lesson 3: Finding Factors of Numbers
Lesson 4: Finding the Greatest Common Factor
Lesson 5: Finding the GCF of 3 Numbers
Lesson 6: Prime Factorization
Lesson 7: Equivalent Fractions
Lesson 8: Renaming Fractions
Lesson 9: Simplifying Fractions, Part 1
Lesson 10:
 Simplifying Fractions, Part 2
Lesson 11: Review of Improper Fractions
Lesson 12: Review of Mixed Fractions
Lesson 13: Writing Mixed Fractions as Improper Fractions
Lesson 14: Writing Improper Fractions as Mixed Fractions
Lesson 15: Thinking of Fractions as Division
Lesson 16: Writing Whole Numbers as Fractions

Everything is provided for you in Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions to begin your study of fractions in your homeschool. Additional volumes on fractions for 5th Grade Math are available for purchase as you and your student progress through your study of fractions.

You will find a free viewing of Lesson 1, along with the worksheet, on the ScienceandMath.com website so that you can try out the course before making your decision to buy it. You can also like them on Facebook to find out how other homeschoolers are implementing their resources for math help.

What's the Cost?

The download price of Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions is $14.99 while the cost for the actual 2-disk set (includes the DVD and CD with printables) is $15.99. Now that's a great price to have your own personal math tutor for fractions in your homeschool!

How We Used Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions

I printed off the worksheets and answer key from the CD provided and kept them in a 3-ring binder. We used this course four days a week in our homeschool. First, we watched the video lesson on my laptop. As I stated before, Jason did a wonderful job breaking down the steps so that my son could get a firm grasp on what he was teaching. Starting with the very first lesson, Jeff demonstrated what he was teaching with several different examples on his white board to ensure that the student was able to form a strong foundation with fractions. Following the video lesson, we worked together on one of the worksheets pertaining to the lesson which I had printed. Each lesson has more than one worksheet so that your student will get plenty of practice to solidify the teaching. Depending on my son's level of understanding, some days I would work with him on the first sheet so that I could help explain any areas that he needed assistance with. Other days, after he felt more comfortable working alone on the worksheet, I would simply assign the next worksheet for that particular lesson. With my son, I've learned that slow and steady wins the race, so we are taking our time going through the lessons. Repetition is key for him, so if we need to watch a video lesson more than once then that is what we do. Since I have all the worksheets on the CD included in Volume 1, I can reprint any that I need. I love that!

My Opinion of Mastering 5th Grade Math - Volume 1 - Fractions from ScienceandMath.com

This video course is exactly what I need to teach my son fractions! The lessons are explained step-by-step which makes it manageable for any student to learn. It's been a long times since I studied fractions, so I'm learning again too. Jeff Gibson is a wonderful teacher! He has taken the stress off of me trying to teach fractions to my son all by myself. It's so easy to just pop the DVD into our laptop and watch the video lesson together. When we get to the subject of math each day, my son always wants to learn more about fractions first before we work on any other math concept. That is a such a relief to me!

Trigger Memory Times Tales Review

I am so excited to bring this review to you! I was given a free copy of Trigger Memory Times Tales in exchange for my honest review.

Honestly, I have been so amazed by the results that I keep pinching myself (so to speak) to see if I’m dreaming. Let me assure you 100%...

TRIGGER MEMORY TIMES TALES REALLY WORKS!!

Trigger Memory Times Tales

No, I am not dreaming; and yes, your child really can learn his upper level multiplication and division facts with Trigger Memory Times Tales. My son memorized all of the multiplication facts in Part One of the DVD in just 4 days. He has struggled with math for a very long time, so 4 days is just incredible to me! If your child doesn’t struggle in math, I’m sure he/she will learn them much faster. I intentionally moved slowly with this process because of my son’s past struggles with math. I am so glad I did. You know your child's abilities and can be the judge of how fast or slow to move through the DVD.

What’s Included and the Cost

At first glance, I was skeptical because there didn’t seem to be enough material. That skepticism quickly faded as I saw the quality and quantity contained in the two DVD's.

Disk 1 contains the computer printables for Part One and Part Two and the answer key. Tests, cube games, crossword puzzles and flashcard printables can be printed as needed from this disk. Disk 2 contains Part One and Part Two of the upper level multiplication and division facts your child will be learning. The individual steps included for Part One and Part Two are Learn the Stories, Story Quiz, Practice Flashcards, Multiplication Flashcards and Division Flashcards.

Everything you need is included in the DVD's! The cost is $24.95 - a great deal considering there is nothing else needed.

How We Used Times Tales

Every day for the first week, my son and I would watch Part One of the DVD for the multiplication facts. The first video introduces you and your child to the characters in the stories. The second video is the stories for the first set of upper level multiplication facts. The third video quizzes your child with the story characters on flash cards. Finally, the last video of Part One quizzes your child with multiplication flash cards.

After the first week of viewing Part One of the DVD, I printed off the test sheet for the multiplication facts my son learned. He knew them all and made a 100 on the test! We both were so happy!

Next we moved on in Part One to the division math facts that went along with the multiplication facts my son had already learned. I saw the "light bulb moment" on his face when he realized the connection between the multiplication facts and the division facts. He learned the division math facts quickly once he realized that connection. It was a very happy moment for this homeschool moma!! His confidence level was off the charts too!

What I Love About Trigger Memory Times Tales

I love everything about Trigger Memory Times Tales! I appreciate the gentle approach to a subject that has caused my son a lot of frustration over the years. I love how the learning is broken down into manageable portions for the child, and that I can control how fast or slow we go through each step of the process based on his ability. The number characters (Mrs. Week, Mrs. Snowman, the sixth grade class, the butterfly, etc.) are truly memorable and the stories used to teach the math facts are completely genius in my honest opinion. I love that Trigger Memory Times Tales has given my son the confidence in learning his math facts that he was lacking before using this system! That is priceless.

My Recommendation

I would highly recommend Times Tales Trigger Memory to any parent who wants to painlessly teach their child the upper level multiplication and division math facts. It has truly been a pleasure every day to pop in the DVD and watch my son learn. He has been able to retain all of the math facts learned by using Trigger Memory Times Tales. Don’t hesitate to get this for your homeschool – you will be so glad you did, and so will your child!

Happy Learning,

Laurie
